Carolina Wozniacki has decided to skip the WTA Elite Trophy of Zhuhai, effectively ending her 2016 campaign, according to the publication  Ekstra Bladet. The tournament is mandatory for players ranked ninth through ninetenth. Wozniacki is currently ranked 16th but has withdrawn due to a foot injury.

Wozniacki rallied late in the season, climbing back inside the top-20 in the WTA rankings. Following her semifinal run at the US Open, Wozniacki won titles at Tokyo and Hong Kong, finishing the year strong.
