FollowWinston-Salem Open Contributes $30,000 to Local School Athletics and Community Tennis Programs

WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. (JAN. 14, 2026) – The Winston-Salem Open, presented by Flow Automotive and Truist, has made $30,000 in local contributions from a portion of the proceeds of the 2025 tournament. Of the total, $20,000 went to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ middle school athletic programs; $5,000 went to Winston-Salem Tennis, a community tennis association; and $5,000 gift went to Kimberly Park Tennis, also a local community tennis association.
“Since our beginning in 2011, the Winston-Salem Open has remained at its heart a community event,” Tournament Director Jeff Ryan said. “Our tournament is completely owned and operated in Winston-Salem, so it’s a top priority to provide support for local schools and community groups that provide public tennis.”
The $20,000 for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools is earmarked for programs usually at Title 1 schools that may not always have sufficient funds to support middle school athletics. Winston-Salem Tennis and Kimberly Park Tennis both focus on providing low or no-cost programming for underserved populations, including tennis playing opportunities for thousands of local people.
Ryan said the latest contributions bring the Winston-Salem Open’s post-COVID total community contributions to approximately $130,000 .
“It is a longtime core value of the Winston-Salem Open to give back to our hometown that supports the tournament every year,” Winston-Salem Professional Tennis Board Chair Don Flow said. “We know sports, especially for young people, improve cognitive development and skills, create friendships, and improve overall self-esteem. The Winston-Salem Open board and staff greatly value our community partnerships with local tennis organizations, and we’re happy to provide financial support for them.”
“It’s a great gift for us to encourage not only the next generation of tennis players, who might not always have access to equipment, instruction or courts but to also energize our local players to continue enjoying the sport of tennis, which you really can play for a lifetime,” Ryan added.
The $30,000 gifts were the result of the eight-day event held at the Wake Forest University Tennis Complex between August 16 through August 23.
