Sony Expands Smart Tennis Sensor Availability

TOKYO, JAPAN September 22, 2014 – Sony Corporation (“Sony”) is expanding the number of racket manufacturers supporting its racket mounted Smart Tennis Sensor to four top tennis brands now including YONEX, Wilson, Prince, and HEAD. The Smart Tennis Sensor is engineered for all levels of tennis players that want to optimize their tennis game and share their performance results. The new sensor takes control to the next level through real-time shot visualizations instantly available on a smartphone or tablet as well as simultaneous displaying of recorded video and shot metrics.

The Smart Tennis Sensor has been available in Japan since May among select racket models by YONEX with availability recently announced for North America beginning January 2015 through top tennis brands such as Wilson, Prince and YONEX. Sony is now partnering with HEAD who will also be offering compatible tennis rackets starting in the new year. With this new partnership along with the expansion of existing partnerships, compatible tennis racket models will be available from all four brands across Japan(*) and North America markets in January 2015.

Aiming to deliver renewed awareness and enjoyment of tennis to more players across the globe, Sony will continue to work to expand the availability of the Smart Tennis Sensor to more regions and extend applications to further enhance the sensor’s functionality.

Adapters are provided with the Smart Tennis Sensor launched from next January (SSE-TN1W) that enables easy attachment to various racket models available by YONEX, Wilson, Prince and HEAD. For tennis players who currently own the SSE-TN1 model available in Japan, provided adapter can be used for the rackets from YONEX, Wilson and Prince. Furthermore, Sony plans to provide adapters for supported tennis rackets from HEAD at no extra charge to these customers. As soon as these details are finalized, Sony and partners will inform customers and retail stores.
