A Recap of the Wilson Industry Event in Manhattan

Aug 30th 2016

Tennis View's Emmy Caporale recently attended the Wilson industry event prior to the US Open in Manhattan. She recapped the event:

New York - Milos Raonic, currently ranked 6th in the world, reached his first Grand Slam final last month at the All the England Club. Earlier in the season, the twenty-five-year-old Canadian began using a new racquet and soon after defeated 17-time grand slam champion Roger Federer in the final at the Brisbane International. Coincidental? Wilson’s product development team unequivocally thinks not.

It is also apparently not a coincidence that Raonic is no longer wearing his signature protective sleeve on his right forearm. The Wilson Blade employs state of the art carbon fiber technology placed in precise locations throughout the racquet to enable players to “train harder play longer.”

The key to enhanced performance in conjunction with reduced fatigue is the significant dampening of vibration and negative energy transferred at point of contact.

Wilson, in partnership with the University of Minnesota’s School of Kinesiology, conducted an experiment employing members of the men’s and women’s tennis teams in order to determine the efficacy of their patented Countervail technology vs. standard Wilson racquets.

The results were statistically significant: players that used racquets with Contervail experienced approximately 40% more control and accuracy, 30% less vibration and 10% less arm fatigue.

At an industry event last week in Manhattan prior to the commencement of the 2016 US Open, Wilson unveiled the Serena Williams autograph racquet with Contrervail technology. The 22-time Grand Slam champion and world number one was involved in the color scheme of the racquet and will begin using the Blade SW104 in competition at the start of the 2017 season.
