WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. – Due to an injury suffered during a World Tour Tennis match, Mardy Fish has been forced to withdraw from the PowerShares Legends Winston-Salem event at the Winston-Salem Open on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Fish will be replaced by Mark Philippoussis for the event at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. Philippoussis will battle James Blake in the semifinals of the event with the winner moving on to the finals to face the winner of the other semifinal between Andy Roddick and Jim Courier.

In his career, Philippoussis reached a major final twice. He made the finals of the US Open in 1998 but fell in four sets to Pat Rafter. In 2003 at Wimbledon, Philippoussis again reached the final but this time dropped a three-set match to Roger Federer. The victory for Federer marked the first of 17 Grand Slam titles.

Overall, Philippoussis advanced to 22 finals and won 11 titles, highlighted by a 1999 victory over Carlos Moya at Indian Wells. In his career, he won two Davis Cup titles with Australia in 1999 and 2003, winning the deciding match in the final of each. He also reached a career-best ranking of No. 8 in the world.

“It is very unfortunate to have to replace Mardy so close to the tournament due to injury, but we’re excited to replace him with another legend in Mark Philippoussis,” said Tournament Director Bill Oakes. “While we wish Mardy could join us, we can’t wait to have Mark, Andy Roddick, James Blake and Jim Courier at the Winston-Salem Open in less than two weeks’ time.”

 The event is set for 7 p. m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, during Session 3 of the 2016 Winston-Salem Open.
