Rafael Nadal fell to Viktor Troicki, 6-3, 7-6, at the Shanghai Masters this week. Afterward, he hinted that perhaps his season is finished.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next couple of weeks,” Nadal said. “It’s something I need to think about. I cannot say what I’m going to do the next month. “I’m not sure about my calendar. I’m not sure about the things I need to do to be 100% for next year. I need to speak with my team and my uncle too.”

He went on to emphasize that he hopes to be at the top of his game when play begins in 2017, “I have two-and-a-half months until the new season starts, so I have two-and-a-half months to put myself at the level that I need to be. I have the confidence that I’m going do it.”
