Memphis Open To Move To New York

Apr 7th 2017

After 41 years, Memphis has hosted their last Memphis Open as the event will move to Long Island. The tournament will be played at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum beginning in 2018. After the tournament was not successful in locking down a sponsor, the tournament owner, GF Sports, announced the move.

Long Island does have a history in hosting tennis as the Hamlet Cup was once played there just prior to the US Open.

Former champions in Memphis include Pete Sampras, John McEnroe and Andy Roddick. Of late, Kei Nishikori has dominated the event, winning four straight titles from 2013-2016. He did not play the event in 2017.
