Konta heads nominations for 2017 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Zone Group I events

World No. 10 Johanna Konta heads the nominations for the 2017 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Zone Group I events taking place on 6-11 February

 in the same week as the Fed Cup World Group and World Group II first round ties on 11-12 February.

The ITF has announced the full nominations for Europe/Africa Zone Group I in Tallinn, Estonia; Americas Zone Group I in Metepec, Mexico; and Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The draws for all three Zone Group I events will be held at Melbourne Park on Monday 16 January at 10am GMT.

All nations contesting the Zone Group I events will be bidding to qualify for the Fed Cup World Group II play-offs on 22-23 April, with two teams qualifying from the Europe/Africa Zone, and one team from both the Americas and Asia/Oceania Zones.

Eight top 50 players will contest Zone Group I events, with Great Britain’s Konta joined in Europe/Africa Zone Group I by Hungary’s Timea Babos, Croatia’s Ana Konjuh and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, while in Asia/Oceania Zone Group I, hosts Kazakhstan have named Yuliya Putintseva and Yaroslava Shvedova, with Japan being led by Misaki Doi and Naomi Osaka.

Nominations for the 2016 Fed Cup World Group and World Group II first round ties on 6-7 February will be announced on Wednesday 1 February.
