In a letter to her supporters, posted in twitter, Ana Ivanovic has announced that she will miss the remainder of the 2016 season. She cites a recurring wrist injury and a decision to have toe surgery as the reasons for her difficult decision.

Ivanovic will miss the upcoming asian swing but hopes to return strong in 2017.

Currently ranked world no. 31, the Serb has struggled in 2016 with just a 15-15 record on the season. She has not won a match on tour since Mallorca in June and she has not advanced past the round-of-32 in a major this year, which includes her first-round exit at Wimbledon.

The 28-year old recently married Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer.
