The WTA is in its third day and is moving into the second round at Indian Wells. In Stadium 1, the day starts with 11-seed Johanna Konta taking on Heather Watson, the British No. 1 and No. 2 players, respectively. Konta leads their head-to-head 1-0. Konta advanced to the second round with a bye, whereas No. 108 ranked Watson has already played this court this week when she eliminated Nicole Gibbs 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Today’s match will be the first all British tour-level match since Hong Kong in 2016.

Today marks Konta’s second Indian Wells appearance; she made it to the round of 16 in 2016. This is Watson’s seventh appearance at Indian Wells, she advanced to the round of 16 in 2015. She enters the match with a 5-30 lifetime record versus top 20 players.

The third match on the Stadium 1 court has Kirsten Flipkens meeting GarbiƱe Muguruza. The Belgian is ranked No. 87, while the Spaniard is at No. 7. Still, the match promises to be exciting, as their head to head is split at 2-2.

Not before 7 pm PST, 3-seed Karolina Pliskova takes on No. 43 Olympic gold medalist Monica Puig. Pliskova leads their matchups 3-0.

Things are off to a slower start on the ATP, which is entering its second day of main draw competition. With many of the fan favorites in what has been dubbed the “death quarter” of the draw, the men’s side will begin to heat up the next few days as top players will inevitable go home sooner than many fans would like.
