Garcia Wins Wuhan Open Title

Caroline Garcia of France defeated Ashleigh Barty 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 to win the Wuhan Open, the biggest title of her career.

- Garcia wins her fourth career title and first at a Premier-level tournament. She now has a 4-2 record in WTA finals.
- Garcia’s previous best performance at a Premier tournament was a semi-final run at 2016 Dubai.
- Garcia, the World No.20, is the lowest-ranked player to win a Premier 5 or Premier Mandatory tournament since No.24 V.Williams at 2015 Wuhan.
- Garcia dropped two sets en route to the title, against Kerber in the first round and Barty in the final; in the second set, Barty twice served for the match and came within three points of victory in the tie-break.
- Barty was also appearing in her first Premier final. She falls to 1-2 in WTA finals, having won Kuala Lumpur and finished runner-up at Birmingham earlier this year.
- Barty and Garcia had never faced each other as professionals, although the latter did win when they faced off in the semi-finals of the 2011 US Open girls’ singles.
- Garcia is projected to rise to No.16 in the rankings, while Barty will move to No.22.
- Chan and Hingis win their eighth WTA doubles title together; Chan now has 26 titles to her name, while Hingis has 63.
- Hingis will return to No.1 in the new rankings, while Chan will rise to a career-best No.2.
