ACEing Autism (www. aceingautism.com), a nonprofit organization that provides recreational tennis programs to children across the country with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is offering a free tennis clinic Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 at 8am. Amongst the excitement and backdrop of the 2014 US Open qualifying rounds, the clinic will take place at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park Public Tennis Courts, adjacent to the east gate entrance of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The clinic will be split into two classes, beginning at 8am for children 10 and under,  and 9am for children 10 years and older. Volunteers from ACEing Autism, United States Tennis Association (USTA), the USTA Foundation, and USTA Eastern section will be on-hand working with the children, with two volunteers assigned per child. All tennis equipment will be provided by HEAD, ACEing Autism’s official equipment supplier.

Additional fun activities include face painting and a coloring competition. Each child will receive an ACEing Autism T-shirt, a medal, and a goody bag for participating. The classes also offer respite for Moms & Dads to come together during this hour to support and share experiences, while proudly watching their children develop into tennis players!

Founded in 2008, ACEing Autism serves over 500 children per week across 30 locations in the USA. The organization uses a ‘tour de force’ of volunteers supported by certified tennis coaches to teach a specially designed tennis curriculum to children with ASD. The program is proven to improve a child’s general fitness, motor skills, hand eye coordination and socialization.

I’ve witnessed the fabulous work ACEing Autism does and I’m so glad they will be doing a clinic at Flushing Meadows. Tennis is an incredible sport in so many ways and to see the positive impact it can have on children with autism spectrum disorder is truly inspiring.” – Retired tennis player and Tennis Channel commentator Justin Gimelstob.
