The Family Circle Cup
Roger Federer Player Appraisal

Roger Federer Player Appraisal
Attracting Visitors Worlwide to Charleston, South Carolina
Kristen Mears finds springtime in Charleston irrestible. Every April, she and several members from their North Carolina tennis club take a road trip to the Family Circle Cup WTA event. Last year, she filled two large buses with players – one was seated with juniors and the other was seated with adults.

“Our tennis community at Country Club of Landfall is enormous and our members really enjoy the opportunity to watch professional tennis in a laid back atmosphere. It’s so intimate that you feel part of the event from anywhere you sit or stand and on any court. And since the Family Circle Cup Tennis Center is so safe the parents feel at ease allowing their kids to roam the outside courts while they relax in the main stadium,” says Mears. Family Circle Cup recognizes the needs of group travel and offers fans several options featuring beautiful and conveniently located hotel properties, as well as seating choices tailored for a wide range of fans looking for a long weekend or a midweek adventure.

“The best way for avid tennis players to enjoy the Family Circle Cup is to come to Charleston with the same friends they play this great sport with on a regular basis,” said Margaret Shaw, Family Circle Cup Ticketing Coordinator. A favorite group activity, Mears says, is the Playmate fast-serve ball machine competition where people compete to return the fastest serve. “Our group is so large that at any point in the day we have at least one member in the contest. One of our junior players was only 10 and competed against players 18 to 40. No one expected our 10 year old to return a 100 mile per hour serve and make it look easy. He won the competition and the crowd was stunned!” said Mears. Consistently celebrated as a top travel destination by Conde Nast Traveler magazine, Charleston is the perfect dream getaway any time of year, but especially during the Family Circle Cup festivities.

The Family Circle Cup has created a diverse and economical selection of travel packages created to take the hassle out of planning a world class tennis vacation. Family Circle Cup Travel Packages offer fans more than 80 different options featuring some of the most beautiful and conveniently located hotel properties in the Charleston area, as well as seating choices tailored for a wide range of fans looking for a long weekend or a mid-week adventure. “Our Travel Packages present fans with some of the best and most exclusive seating the Family Circle Cup has ever offered,” commented Margaret Shaw, Family Circle Cup Ticket Coordinator. “We’ve designed these flexible and cost-saving options to help our fans plan a truly special tennis vacation combining world class tennis and historic Charleston to make memories to last a lifetime.”
